According to the State of Maine February 16 bulletin, the average cost of heating oil is $2.30/gallon. That translates into $16.58 to produce a million BTU. To generate the same amount of heat, natural gas costs $15.27. Propane is $28.36 Pellets are $15.82.

The price in crude oil is likely to push the price of heating oil in Maine to where it is equal to pellet heat. The price of pellets will remain very stable. Crude oil...not so much.
